About the position

The Financial Accounting Coordinator is responsible for directing the financial operations of Clayton County, ensuring the integrity of financial records, and coordinating the production of periodic financial reports. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and providing financial analysis and assistance to various county departments and officials.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Coordinates daily work activities and monitors the status of work in progress.
  • Ensures compliance with county financial management policies and applicable regulations.
  • Provides financial information and analysis to county department heads and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures integrity and accuracy of financial system figures and balances.
  • Ensures timely issuance of monthly budget and management financial reporting.
  • Supervises the P-Card Specialist and reconciles bank statements to general ledger balances.
  • Develops and presents training regarding P-Card procedures to employees.
  • Coordinates year-end financial records and ensures proper retention of accounting records.
  • Acts as a liaison between the department and external audit firms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field with major coursework in accounting.
  • Six years of previous experience in governmental accounting, auditing, and computer operations.
