About the position

The Financial Aid Analyst & Reconciliation Specialist plays a crucial role in administering student financial aid programs at Mott Community College. This position is responsible for providing high-quality support to students, overseeing various financial aid programs, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The role involves analytical tasks related to financial aid data, account reconciliation, and reporting, all aimed at facilitating students' access to financial resources and supporting the college's enrollment goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality support to students visiting or calling the Financial Aid Office (FAO).
  • Oversee all aspects of Pell and Loan Programs, administering over $40 million to students annually.
  • Analyze financial aid data, accounts, and reconcile Title IV funds monthly.
  • Serve as Chair of the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Committee and oversee the appeal process.
  • Complete State and Federal Reports in conjunction with Institutional Research and Information Technology Services.
  • Report and oversee the Second Chance Pell Experimental Program.
  • Manage the COD Interface for Pell and Direct Lending.
  • Conduct packaging, report analysis, and transfer monitoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant work experience in the accounting field, including general ledger transactions, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose errors in the application process and data exchange for Title IV Programs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with students, college employees, and business partners.
  • Ability to manage stress and handle peak seasonal workloads.
  • Demonstrated time management and priority-setting skills in a high-stress, multi-task environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel and basic proficiency with MS Word; ability to use complex accounting software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and function effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, and governmental regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience administering Title IV funds.
  • Familiarity with Federal Direct Lending.
  • Experience with Datatel software.
  • Audit and/or analytical work paper preparation experience.
  • Experience in an educational institution.
