The Financial Aid Analyst at Henderson State University plays a crucial role in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. This position is responsible for providing, obtaining, processing, and packaging student financial aid information, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws as well as institutional policies. The analyst will serve as a key resource for students and their families, guiding them through the financial aid process and determining eligibility based on various requirements. This role requires a commitment to promoting the success of all students, particularly those who are first-generation, from underrepresented populations, or of low socioeconomic status. In this position, the Financial Aid Analyst will expedite student financial aid applications, addressing issues and concerns as they arise. The analyst must possess strong conflict resolution skills to identify potential solutions to problems that may occur during the financial aid process. Diligence, a personable demeanor, and an accommodating attitude towards the needs of students and parents are essential traits for success in this role. The analyst will also be responsible for staying current on financial aid regulations, disseminating information to subordinates, and partnering with senior-level Financial Aid staff to ensure compliance with the latest state and federal regulations. Additionally, the Financial Aid Analyst will attend workshops and conferences to remain informed about changes in regulations and will study written materials to understand institutional, state, and federal aid programs. Maintaining student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations is vital, and the analyst will provide feedback and recommendations to the Director of Financial Aid regarding policies and procedures. Overall, this position is dedicated to ensuring outstanding service and support for Henderson State students and the surrounding community, assisting families in preparing for a successful transition to college.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service and guidance to financial aid applicants and their families throughout the financial aid process.
  • Determine eligibility within the parameters of institutional, state, and federal requirements.
  • Expedite student financial aid applications to address issues and concerns as they arise.
  • Utilize conflict resolution skills and identify potential solutions to issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of financial aid regulations and disseminate information to subordinates.
  • Partner with senior-level Financial Aid staff to update policies and procedures in compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of student aid records and internal and external reports.
  • Attend workshops and conferences to keep abreast of regulations.
  • Study written material to understand institutional, state, and federal aid programs and policies.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Director of Financial Aid regarding policies and procedures.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with a major in general business or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in student financial aid or a related area.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of student financial aid programs, standards, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of counseling and interviewing techniques.
  • Ability to review and evaluate student financial needs and prepare appropriate financial aid packages.
  • Ability to disseminate information orally and in writing.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, compile, and record data on financial aid.
  • Ability to supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial aid software systems.
