About the position

The Financial Aid Analyst at Howard Community College plays a crucial role in the Financial Aid Services Scholarships and Grants team. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with institutional policies. The analyst will manage the Maryland State Financial Aid Program, assist with institutional aid processing, and support technological improvements within the office. The role also involves advising students on financial aid eligibility and processing, making it essential for maintaining the integrity of financial aid operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Maryland State Financial Aid Program including awarding, certifying, roster preparation and submission, and reconciliation.
  • Assist with preparing Maryland State audit documentation and respond to auditor inquiries.
  • Perform testing of Colleague software patches and upgrades related to Maryland State Financial Aid processing.
  • Support the systems team in developing and implementing technological process improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and institutional Title IV financial aid regulations and policies.
  • Advise and assist students and families on financial aid application processes and eligibility.
  • Review, correct, and certify file information for disbursement or awards.
  • Train staff on Maryland State Financial Aid programs and processes.
  • Identify special circumstances to utilize Professional Judgment in financial aid decisions.
  • Collaborate with other campus units to resolve student issues.
  • Work with MHEC Office of Student Financial Aid staff to clarify state regulations and resolve issues.
  • Assist the Senior Financial Aid Analyst in awarding institutional scholarships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree in Business, Higher Education or related fields preferred.
  • Three years of financial aid experience, preferably at the level of counselor or assistant director.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid laws and regulations.
  • Experience with integrated database systems, preferably Colleague.
  • Experience with scholarship database systems, preferably Scholarship Universe.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Data Exchange and National Student Loan Data System.
  • Ability to collect, compile, and analyze information and data effectively.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
