About the position

The Financial Aid Program Coordinator I is responsible for coordinating and administering a financial aid program that awards scholarships, grants, and other forms of student financial assistance. This role may also involve coordinating related programs and services that cater to the internship and career needs of students and employers. The coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that students are aware of the financial assistance available to them and that the awards are appropriately disbursed and credited to their accounts. In this position, the coordinator resolves general awards issues by utilizing the financial aid management system to analyze applications against established criteria and availability. This includes making necessary adjustments, additions, and cancellations to awards. The coordinator communicates with federal and state agencies, as well as potential and existing scholarship donors, regarding recipient information, selection processes, and other award criteria. Additionally, the coordinator confers with and counsels students and parents about available financial assistance opportunities, ensuring that they understand the options available to them. The role also involves collaboration with deans, college administrators, and faculty to ensure that recruiting goals and student needs are being met. The coordinator reviews the academic performance of financial aid recipients to ensure satisfactory progress and takes necessary actions if progress is not being met, including reviewing appeals. Participation in career fairs, orientations, and other events is also required to promote awareness of financial assistance available to students. Furthermore, the coordinator may work with potential and existing employers to discuss job and internship opportunities, including arranging receptions and seminars where external entities can present employment opportunities. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline is beneficial.
  • Experience will be considered in lieu of education, and education will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Higher Education experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a highly-pressured environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly interpret and implement policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
