About the position
The Financial Aid Specialist at Brazosport College plays a crucial role in assisting students with their financial aid applications and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. This position involves verifying student financial aid applications, counseling students on financial aid options, and managing records related to student aid. The specialist will also support outreach programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing student success.
Responsibilities
- Perform verification of student financial aid applications per Department of Education regulations.
- Resolve comment flags, process corrections, and adjust awards as needed to maintain compliance.
- Assist students with completion of FAFSA and review financial aid applications.
- Monitor satisfactory academic progress and correspond with students regarding their applications.
- Award financial aid funds using the Student Information System.
- Counsel students on the availability of financial aid, scholarships, and work-study eligibility requirements.
- Perform Return of Title IV process calculations and monitor unofficial withdrawal processes.
- Compile data for institutional, fiscal, federal, and state reports on student aid.
- Manage records of student aid documents, ensuring proper filing and maintenance according to laws and policies.
- Assist with FAFSA workshops, outreach programs, and new student orientation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- At least two (2) years' experience working in student personnel administration in a college setting.
- At least two (2) years' experience in a business and customer service setting.
- Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Evidence of strong computer skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior financial aid work experience preferred.
- Ability to be flexible, creative, and resourceful while meeting deadlines.
