About the position

The Financial Analyst for Faculty Practice Finance at Johns Hopkins University will play a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of the School of Medicine (SOM) faculty workforce. This position is part of the Faculty Practice Finance (FPF) vertical within the SOM Central Finance office, which is responsible for overseeing the financial performance of the School of Medicine and collaborating with various departments to advance strategic financial initiatives. The Analyst will engage in financial analysis to assist management in setting financial goals and objectives for the FPF group. This includes performing financial and accounting activities that support budgeting, business plans, professional revenue evaluations, faculty compensation, and funds flow impacts. The role requires extracting financial data from various accounting and information systems to conduct basic to moderately complex cost and financial analyses, while also serving as a project manager to ensure the FPF team meets its annual goals. In terms of program management, the Analyst will be a key member of the team responsible for managing SOM faculty compensation. This includes submitting data to external agencies for benchmarking, evaluating annual benchmark data, managing the annual faculty salary letter process, and providing support to departments during the annual faculty budget process. The Analyst will also maintain a database of financial agreements with internal and external stakeholders to track support for the faculty practice and participate in meetings to support workforce planning and compensation committees. From a financial management perspective, the Analyst will interpret data to evaluate past financial performance and make financial projections for management decisions. This involves evaluating faculty productivity, reviewing business plans during the faculty recruitment process, conducting cost studies, and producing financial reports for forecasting and analysis. The Analyst will also ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, verify document completeness, and analyze various financial transactions, including general funds and grants. Critical thinking is essential in this role, as the Analyst will use knowledge of FPF processes and financial health to inform the Faculty Practice budget and conduct reporting and analysis for decision-making purposes. Additionally, the Analyst will train and communicate with colleagues to ensure familiarity with internal controls and adherence to them. Collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Executive Director and Associate Directors of Faculty Practice Finance, is also a key aspect of this position.
