About the position

As a Financial Analyst in the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) department at The Mutual Group (TMG), you will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's actual, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis functions. This position requires regular engagement in strategic financial discussions to provide insights into financial outcomes and establish key performance indicators that measure the financial health of both TMG and its member institutions. Your responsibilities will include preparing financial plans and analytics that align with the overall business strategy, as well as providing consolidated analysis for TMG and its affiliates. In this role, you will develop financial analyses, forecasting, and business intelligence efforts to ensure efficient financial operations. You will prepare consolidated analysis results and make recommendations for effective financial planning and management, as well as efficient expense management. Supporting the annual financial plan creation process is a key responsibility, along with assisting in financial reforecasts and projections throughout the year. You will be expected to anticipate and analyze financial challenges and opportunities before they critically impact the business. Your work will involve ensuring appropriate allocations between divisions and across product lines, including expense allocations and analysis of by-line financials, in coordination with the Data Hub. You will also support functional expense analysis for various departments such as Claims, Finance, and Legal. Collaborating with leaders to understand and develop budgets, you will provide monthly and quarterly expense analysis throughout the year. Additionally, you will partner with the business to proactively identify and drive improvements in performance and expense management, positively impacting key financial measures and overall corporate results. Gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative information will be essential for effective financial performance and efficiencies. You will also provide and support appropriate financial benchmarking comparisons for competitive analysis and expense improvement efforts. Finally, you will prepare reports and presentations for senior management, the Board of Directors, member institutions, and other key stakeholders, while performing all other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Develop financial analysis, forecasting and business intelligence efforts to ensure efficient financial operations.

  • Support the annual financial plan creation process.
  • Assist in financial reforecasts and projections on a regular basis throughout the year.
  • Anticipate and analyze financial challenges and opportunities before the business impact is critical.
  • Ensure appropriate allocations between divisions and across product lines, including expense allocations, analysis and by-line financials, in coordination with Data Hub.
  • Support functional expense analysis (Example: Claims, Finance, Legal, etc.).
  • Work with leaders to understand and develop budgets and provide monthly and quarterly expense analysis throughout the year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Four (4+) years of financial planning and analysis experience with a financial service company or consulting company in progressively responsible roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Solid knowledge of financial planning and analysis concepts, terminology and techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, Excel, including complex data and creation of tables, pivots and charts.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely with business partners, stakeholders and build relationships.
  • Broad knowledge of insurance operations, financial data, GAAP requirements and general regulatory requirements highly desired.
  • Experience with Workday, planning or other management reporting systems preferred.
