The Financial Analyst position at UC San Diego is a critical role within the Department of Surgery, which is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine. The Financial Analyst will work in a hybrid capacity, balancing onsite work at the La Jolla Medical Center with remote responsibilities. This role is essential for supporting the department's financial operations and ensuring effective resource allocation as the department aims for aggressive growth in the Health System's clinical strategic plan. In this position, the Financial Analyst will utilize professional concepts and apply organizational policies and procedures to resolve various financial issues. The incumbent will be responsible for performing basic financial and resource analysis to understand past performance and determine present and future resource allocations. This includes regular reviews and analyses of data to identify problematic areas and irregular expenditures, researching causes, and making recommendations for corrective actions. The role also involves processing, reviewing, and approving financial transactions, as well as providing regular and ad hoc reporting on the operating performance of departmental and income funds. The Financial Analyst will prepare basic financial and resource reports for internal department constituents, which may include periodic financial reports, salary budgets, and analyses related to contracts, grants, and endowments. The incumbent will also provide transactional support across various divisions, addressing specific issues that may impact the department's financial portfolio. This position requires a strong understanding of finance policies and practices, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and provide oversight on financial reporting.
