About the position

The Financial Analyst position at UC San Diego Health is a contract role within the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI). This institute serves as an organized research unit aimed at enhancing clinical research education, training, and infrastructure in the San Diego area. The ACTRI collaborates with multiple hospital systems, universities, and biomedical research organizations, receiving partial funding from the NIH's Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). The role is hybrid, requiring a combination of onsite work at La Jolla and remote work, and is supervised by the Finance Director and Manager. In this position, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial management, administration, and reporting for the ACTRI and clinical research administration. This includes resolving variances, identifying problems, and making recommendations in line with departmental, university, and agency regulations. The analyst will act as a liaison with various departments, including the Controller's office and the Vice Chancellor Health Sciences Business Finance team, to facilitate the acquisition and administration of research and operational funding. The incumbent will also provide fiscal advice and support to faculty and department staff, assisting in the review and monitoring of the fiscal status of funding sources. Regular reports and proposals will be prepared with team guidance, utilizing professional concepts and organizational policies to address routine issues. The role requires effective communication and the ability to work collaboratively within a team, adapting to changing priorities in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial management, administration, and reporting for the ACTRI and clinical research administration.
  • Resolve variances and identify problems, formulating recommendations in accordance with regulations.
  • Act as a liaison with the Controller's office and other central departments for funding acquisition and administration.
  • Provide fiscal advice and guidance to faculty and department support staff.
  • Support analysts in reviewing and monitoring the fiscal status of funding sources, making recommendations to resolve fiscal matters.
  • Prepare regular reports and proposals accurately with team guidance.
  • Apply organizational policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.

Requirements

  • Four years of related experience or an Associate's degree in a related area.
  • Basic knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
  • Ability to gather and organize information for basic financial analysis assignments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Basic interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high volume environment under management guidance.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and function as a team member.
  • Basic knowledge of internal control practices.
