About the position

The Financial Analyst II position in the Bursar Office at Tennessee State University is a full-time role that requires a commitment of 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality customer service to students, parents, sponsors, and colleagues. This role demands a solutions-oriented approach, where the analyst must quickly identify nuances in customer interactions and provide accurate responses to inquiries regarding student account financial transactions. The position involves analyzing and understanding complex financial issues, maintaining confidentiality, and exercising judgment in various situations. In addition to customer service, the Financial Analyst will engage in team responsibilities, striving to meet team goals while taking personal responsibility for individual tasks. Effective communication is essential, as the analyst will interact with students and parents through various channels, including telephone, email, and in-person meetings. The role also requires tact and diplomacy, especially when managing complicated conversations regarding student accounts. The analyst will monitor compliance with university policies on payment of student account charges, assist in the collection of outstanding debts, and maintain a working knowledge of applicable policies and regulations. This includes ensuring the accuracy of student account data through continuous analytical review and reporting. The position also involves reconciling student refunds, daily cashiering reports, and preparing journal entries as needed. The Financial Analyst will assist with fiscal year-end financial statements and perform other duties as assigned by the Bursar.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-level customer service to students, parents, sponsors, and colleagues.
  • Employ a solutions-oriented approach to customer interactions.
  • Analyze and understand student account financial transactions thoroughly.
  • Engage in team responsibilities and strive to meet team goals.
  • Maintain positive communication with team members and exercise judgment in handling confidential information.
  • Communicate professionally with students and parents via telephone, email, and in-person.
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy in managing difficult conversations.
  • Analyze and research student account issues to respond to inquiries effectively.
  • Follow established procedures for collecting past due student accounts.
  • Counsel students and parents regarding outstanding accounts and explore available options.
  • Monitor compliance with the University's payment policies.
  • Assist in the collection of outstanding debts for departed students.
  • Maintain knowledge of university policies, government regulations, and federal aid guidelines.
  • Monitor accuracy of student account data through analytical review and testing.
  • Reconcile student refunds, daily cashiering reports, and bank deposits.
  • Prepare journal entries and account analyses as needed.
  • Assist with fiscal year-end financial statements and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of two years of work-related experience.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted government accounting practices.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly effective organizational skills.
  • Strong team player orientation.
  • Ability to work successfully in a high-pressure environment with multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications in a Windows environment.
  • Banner experience preferred.
