About the position

The Financial Analyst Intern position at SpartanNash is a paid, full-time summer internship designed for active students pursuing a degree in finance or accounting. This role provides exposure to the grocery and distribution industry, allowing interns to engage in real-world problem-solving and participate in educational opportunities. Interns will work on financial analysis, report creation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while completing a strategic project during the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Financial report creation to provide better analysis tools
  • Research and report out on financial details within various expense areas
  • Simplify/streamline reports used for analysis
  • Conduct variance analysis
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to its objectives
  • Complete or participate in at least one strategic project (Capstone Project) during the internship and possibly present to the executive team
  • Participate in learning opportunities including tours of warehouses and retail stores, and community service events
  • Attend weekly professional development workshops for skill development and team building

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Active student through the summer
  • Graduate December 2025 or later
  • Willingness to attend mandatory in-person events in Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • GPA of 3.0 or greater (Preferred)
  • Relevant work experience such as a prior internship or campus experience (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Required)
  • Proficiency in software for analyzing financial data, creating portfolios, and making forecasts
  • Ability to analyze financial data and trends to reach conclusions and make recommendations
  • Accuracy in gathering data and analyzing trends
  • Ability to clearly convey findings and conclusions
  • Understanding of a broad range of business approaches, concepts, and practices
  • Ability to work with colleagues in other departments to gather data and conduct research
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Effective communication skills
