About the position

The Financial Analyst, Pay Services at NASCAR is responsible for analyzing payroll bank, liability, and tax accounts while ensuring compliance with internal policies and GAAP. This role involves managing the Salary and Benefit budget and forecast processes, preparing internal reports for budget managers, and providing various analyses as needed. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare payroll bank, liability, and tax accounts; analyze account variances and provide explanations and proposed solutions.
  • Develop salary budgets and forecasts, ensuring all timelines are met and required reporting is delivered on time.
  • Utilize trend analysis, estimates, and judgment to ensure proposals and projections are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal policies.
  • Analyze salary and benefit accounts, comparing actual results versus budget/forecast projections, and provide feedback on areas of concern or opportunity.
  • Develop effective budgeting reports for company leaders to analyze differences in budget to actual/forecasted numbers.
  • Provide required annual data for the 401K True-Up, Corporate Tax Reporting, Workers Compensation Audits, Census Requests, and External Audit.
  • Maintain Payroll Period Schedules by Pay Group to ensure proper salary expense accruals are calculated in Workday.
  • Post all payroll-related journal entries for month-end close in accordance with the internal month-end close schedule.
  • Handle special projects, ad hoc reporting, and analysis as requested.
  • Identify and drive improvement opportunities, working closely with the Sr. Director, Pay Services to implement them.
  • Create and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports and prepare financial analysis using Company systems and tools.
  • Assist with the development of training materials for Company reporting tools, Workday, and Adaptive Planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or related field.
  • 1-3 years of finance or related experience in a mid-size to large organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of PC-based software applications, including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience working in business reporting systems, including creating, modifying, and disseminating reports.

  • Experience with Workday and Adaptive Planning.
  • Strong financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to department heads and management.
