About the position

The Financial Analyst position at CareFirst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting financial data to prepare reports, models, and recommendations for business leaders. This role supports moderately complex projects and interfaces regularly with project managers and task leads, ensuring compliance with regulations and providing insights for decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Prepares various accounting and financial reports, analyzes and verifies data to produce financial results for assigned business units.
• Investigates and researches problem account reconciliation to improve controls over general ledger and balance sheet activity.
• Performs moderately to complex analysis, compiles and interprets financial data to ensure compliance with regulations and identify trends.
• Prepares journal entries, monthly account reconciliations, and responds to inquiries from auditors and management.
• Handles special requests and researches moderately complex accounting issues, preparing financial data for presentation to upper management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent technical training, or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
• 3 years of accounting/financial experience with a good understanding of GAAP, STAT, and federal regulations.
• Basic knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, and financial data analysis and reporting.
• Proficient with financial analysis software (e.g., Delphi Technology, Oracle E-Business Suite Financials, Longview).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Healthcare insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Eligible.
