About the position

Elizabethtown Gas, a natural gas utility company, is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join their team in Union, NJ. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in financial and process analysis, modeling, and business analytics specifically for construction activities, with a primary focus on customer growth and new business initiatives. The role involves gathering, interpreting, and formatting various metrics for analysis and presentations, which are crucial for executive-level reviews. The Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing cost and budget metrics, supporting construction-related activities for special projects, and offering insights into the financial and operational results of the department. The incumbent will be accountable for ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ETG Tariff. Essential functions of the role include compiling and interpreting financial information to report and forecast financial results, creating visual presentations to clearly illustrate data, maintaining department databases, and compiling monthly financial information to evaluate performance. The analyst will also develop construction cost metrics and dashboards, monitor cost drivers, and identify areas of greatest impact. In addition, the Senior Financial Analyst will investigate data anomalies, respond to complex inquiries, and fully understand department targets to develop plans that ensure departmental success. The role also involves supporting special projects by coordinating strategic planning, developing budgets, and creating dashboards, while acting as the point person for business case support documentation. Maintaining department SOW and pricing files is also a key responsibility of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and interpret financial information to report and/or forecast financial results.
  • Create visual presentations (tables, charts, graphs, etc.) to clearly illustrate data.
  • Maintain department databases and provide data as requested.
  • Compile and interpret monthly financial information to evaluate performance and project financial results.
  • Review new business capital budgets monthly and re-forecast as necessary.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual routine deliverables to support and report new business results.
  • Develop construction cost metrics and dashboards.
  • Monitor cost drivers and identify areas of greatest impact.
  • Propose new analytics and/or processes to enhance reporting, add value, and promote success.
  • Investigate data anomalies and respond to complex inquiries.
  • Fully understand department targets and develop plans to help ensure department success.
  • Support special projects by coordinating strategic planning, developing budgets, and creating dashboards.
  • Act as point person for business case support documentation.
  • Maintain department SOW and pricing files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience performing financial analysis, interpreting data, and providing variance explanations.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems.
  • High degree of initiative and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work across a matrix organization structure with horizontal and vertical teams.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint, and moderate proficiency in other MS Office tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of gas distribution pipeline construction regulations.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Intermediate proficiency in SharePoint and PowerBI.
  • Utility construction, natural gas, or other energy industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of Maximo and Workday.
