About the position

The Financial Analyst Supervisor at the Ohio Department of Public Safety is responsible for overseeing fiscal personnel within the Fiscal Services Section of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. This role involves managing financial operations, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures while maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders. The position is hybrid eligible, allowing for a combination of in-office and telework days.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise fiscal personnel including Financial Analysts and Financial Associates.
  • Assign and review work, conduct interviews, and counsel employees.
  • Conduct performance reviews and resolve conflicts.
  • Ensure subordinates are properly trained to maintain acceptable performance.
  • Enforce section policies and procedures and oversee daily work activities.
  • Manage assigned areas of responsibility such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and budget activity.
  • Communicate information concerning operations and maintain reports on section activities.
  • Examine and analyze accounting records and financial statements.
  • Coordinate and monitor participation in grant programs.
  • Assist with budget preparation and requests for new equipment, personnel, and supplies.

Requirements

  • 54 months of experience or training in accounting and/or finance, including advanced experience in spreadsheet software.
  • Completion of an undergraduate core program in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 30 months of experience or training in accounting and/or finance, including advanced experience in spreadsheet software.
  • Completion of a graduate core program in public or business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 12 months of experience as a Senior Financial Analyst or equivalent qualifications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with public sector financial management.
  • Knowledge of grant management processes.
  • Familiarity with state budgeting procedures.
