About the position

The Financial Analyst position at the State of South Carolina Department of Insurance involves analyzing the financial condition of insurance companies to ensure their solvency and compliance with regulations. The Analyst will work under the supervision of the Supervising Financial Analyst and will be responsible for reviewing financial statements, conducting detailed analyses, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, review, and analyze annual and quarterly insurer financial statements and related regulatory filings.
  • Complete detailed financial analysis checklists for insurance companies in accordance with Department procedures.
  • Customize analysis procedures based on the size, risk, and complexity of the insurer.
  • Summarize and document results of analysis and communicate with company executives and regulators.
  • Research complex issues related to state law, regulations, and accounting standards.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, insurance, risk management, or a related field.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and other related tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial analysis in the insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of NAIC standards and guidelines.
