About the position

The Financial Analyst position at Expedite Technology Solutions is a contract role focused on the accounting and financial reporting aspects of the Department of Aviation (DOA). The successful candidate will be part of the Accounting and Financial Reporting team, responsible for ensuring that all DOA transactions are recorded in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as set forth by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This role requires a strong understanding of financial principles and the ability to work independently under general supervision. In this position, the Financial Analyst will prepare journal entries, review general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness, and reconcile these accounts. The analyst will also perform account analysis, developing explanations for significant variances, and assist with the annual audit of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This includes preparing documentation for client requests and supporting the audit process with necessary materials. Additionally, the analyst will assist in the preparation of the DOA's ACFR, monthly reporting, and quarterly financial reporting packages. They will also contribute to internal management reporting and research new accounting pronouncements to ensure compliance and best practices are followed. The role may involve other duties as required, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing journal entries.
  • Reviewing general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconciling general ledger accounts.
  • Performing account analysis and developing explanations for significant variances.
  • Assisting with the annual audit of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Assisting with the preparation of the DOA's ACFR.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the DOA's monthly reporting and quarterly financial reporting package.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the DOA's internal management reporting.
  • Researching and implementing new accounting pronouncements.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Excel including use of Pivot Tables, data collection and management.
  • Familiarity with a variety of financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting applications.
  • 2 years of accounting experience (preferred).
  • 1 year of experience with Microsoft Excel (preferred).
  • Ability to commute to Atlanta, GA 30320 (preferred).
  • Ability to relocate to Atlanta, GA 30320 before starting work (preferred).
