About the position

As a Financial Accountant at our well-established manufacturing company located in Knoxville, TN, you will play a crucial role in our dynamic finance team. This entry-level position is designed for individuals who are detail-oriented, motivated, and eager to contribute to the financial health and growth of our organization. You will be responsible for managing all financial transactions, which include fixed payments, variable expenses, bank deposits, and budgets. This role offers a unique opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that our financial operations run smoothly and efficiently. In this position, you will manage all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), general ledger (GL), cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition. You will prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements, coordinate the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, and report any variances. Additionally, you will be responsible for coordinating regulatory reporting and researching technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Your role will also involve supporting the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring quality control over financial transactions and reporting, and managing compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. You will develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls, and coordinate with the treasury operations team to ensure smooth financial operations. Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Coordinate with the treasury operations team to ensure smooth financial operations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, or senior accountant.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with financial accounting statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like FreshBooks and QuickBooks.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field.
  • Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) will be preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in treasury operations.
