About the position

The Financial Analyst position at the Community College of Baltimore County is designed to perform advanced level duties in maintaining various accounting records for assigned College departments or divisions. This role includes assisting with budget development, the annual audit, finance projections, and account reconciliations, all in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal, state, and local guidelines. The Financial Analyst will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health of the institution by providing accurate financial data and insights to support decision-making processes. In this position, the analyst will assist in the preparation of reports and training for college personnel in the use of the financial management system, including budget development. The role requires the preparation, review, and analysis of operating budgets, as well as assisting faculty and staff in monitoring revenue and expenses. The Financial Analyst will prepare various financial reports and statements to ensure compliance with federal, county, and state regulations, and will also be responsible for preparing forecasts and analyzing revenue and expense trends. The position involves maintaining, monitoring, auditing, and reconciling accounts, as well as preparing adjusting entries. The analyst will prepare accounting schedules and reports for management and external auditors and agencies. Specific duties include preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and budgets for all business units, conducting ROI analysis on ad-hoc projects, and reviewing business operations in detail, particularly in relation to bookstore sales, dining services, and vending operations. The Financial Analyst will work closely with the data analytics team to assimilate information into reporting models and analyze enrollment data to communicate influences on sales and operations. Additionally, the analyst will support Executive and Senior Staff with financial analysis and develop business/enrollment forecasts across the college's academic and auxiliary portfolio. The role also involves co-developing and reconciling transactions within a web-based college payment platform and performing research and analysis as requested by senior management. The Financial Analyst will prepare budget transfers, manage journal entries for campus departments, and report on non-academic revenue-generating units, advising area leaders on best practices and internal controls. Overall, this position is integral to the financial planning and development of the college, identifying opportunities to improve and streamline business processes using technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in report preparation and training of college personnel in the use of financial management system, including budget development.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze operating budgets.
  • Assist faculty and staff in revenue and expense monitoring.
  • Prepare various financial reports and statements in compliance with federal, county, and state regulations.
  • Prepare forecasts and revenue and expense trend analyses.
  • Maintain, monitor, audit, and reconcile accounts; prepare adjusting entries.
  • Prepare accounting schedules and reports for management and for external auditors and agencies.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and budgets on all business units and meet regularly with area leaders to review performance and set measurement goals.
  • Conduct ROI analysis on ad-hoc projects, capital investments, and revenue generating investments for business segments in coordination with Sr. Dir and AVP of Business Services.
  • Review business operations in detail and analyze activity with bookstore sales, dining services, and vending operations.
  • Work with data analytics team to assimilate information into reporting models.
  • Analyze enrollment data, trends, and demographics to communicate influences on sales and operations.
  • Support Executive and Senior Staff with financial analysis and develop business/enrollment forecasts across the colleges academic and auxiliary portfolio.
  • Support campus directors and special fund projects with budget analysis and data about campus operations and services.
  • Co-develop and reconcile transactions within web-based college payment platform for non-academic operating and other business units.
  • Perform research and analysis as requested by senior management including trend analyses and budget variance analyses.
  • Prepare budget transfers, pay invoices, and manage journal for campus departments and business operating units.
  • Report on non-academic revenue generating units and advise area leaders on operating best practices, purchasing decisions and internal controls.
  • Assist with various accounting functions of the college including operating, other unrestricted, and custodial funds.
  • Prepare and distribute budget development and temp/hourly spreadsheets for the budget development process, provide guidance to organization managers during completion and review and analyze submitted data.
  • Assess operations cash flows and sustainability, create historical financials, and develop future pro-forma based on past and current operations, market trends, and enrollment data.
  • Provide financial planning, development, and support for capital expenditures and forecasting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline business processes and strategies using technology.
  • Develop reporting and analyze expenditures for temp hourly and faculty employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Management.
  • Three (3) years of experience analyzing financial data and preparing summary reports.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications.
  • Master's degree and/or CPA certification, or pursuit of, preferred.
  • Higher Education experience preferred.
