About the position

The Financial Applications Engineer at Mayer Brown is responsible for the maintenance, support, and enhancement of financial and accounting applications. This role involves managing a global portfolio of applications, ensuring they meet business needs, and collaborating with IT and finance teams to align with firm and client requirements. The position requires a proactive approach to project management and communication, as well as technical expertise in financial systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures financial applications meet the needs of the business
  • Ensures the evolution of financial applications continues to meet business needs
  • Prioritizes and successfully delivers assigned projects
  • Supports software related to customized or packaged financial applications
  • Performs telephone and desk side support for all financial applications
  • Responsible for multiple concurrent large and complex projects
  • Maintains a high level of responsiveness to customer inquiries
  • Liaises between Firm management, sponsors, users, and IT personnel
  • Attends user groups independently or with senior managers
  • Develops written and oral communications explaining technical concepts in non-technical language
  • Evaluates new financial products/applications for the Firm
  • Recommends improvements on the use of all Firm financial applications
  • Complies with the IT Department's change request system
  • Ensures regular preventative maintenance is planned and implemented
  • Contributes to user and systems needs analysis and requirements definition projects
  • Develops and reviews design documentation
  • Modifies procedures to solve complex problems
  • Designs, codes, tests, and debugs programs
  • Ensures software development goals support organizational goals
  • Participates in vendor evaluation and recommendation
  • Works with IT management to evolve operations program/project management methods
  • Maintains proactive working relationships within the IT Department and with users
  • Communicates downtime, maintenance, and updates to all teams
  • Documents and distributes input back to user constituencies for quality assurance
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet Firm goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in IT systems applications environment
  • Five+ years managing high-performance back-office and administrative support systems
  • 6 years of IT industry experience, preferably in a professional partnership environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • In-depth knowledge of Aderant Expert technology
  • 6+ years working with client-server and web-compliant development tools
  • Strong working knowledge of relational databases
  • Ability to conduct research into IT issues and products
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations for business cases
  • Strong understanding of technology, architecture, deployment, and quality assurance practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with high initiative and attention to detail
  • Strong customer service skills and organizational skills
  • Exercises strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
