About the position

The Financial Associate I at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health plays a vital role in ensuring financial integrity and efficiency across various operational functions. This position involves organizing accounting systems, reviewing financial documents, managing accounts payable, and supporting the overall operational excellence of the department. The role requires independent problem-solving, effective communication, and a commitment to maintaining compliance with fiscal policies while contributing to the strategic objectives of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement accounting and record-keeping systems and procedures.
  • Evaluate accounts, ledgers, records, reports, and other financial documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyze complex financial reports to ensure adherence to established systems and regulations.
  • Execute complete transactions in accounts payable, including account balancing and reconciliation.
  • Investigate discrepancies and initiate corrective measures as needed.
  • Oversee minor office management duties and assist with the Operations Office webpage.
  • Operate independently within a dynamic work environment, anticipating and resolving issues.
  • Stay informed on trends and compliance issues pertinent to fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement complex administrative systems and procedures.
  • Ensure efficient workflow and communication within the unit regarding assigned responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in academia.
  • Computer competency in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Experience with Buy 2 Pay, Microsoft Office, procurement, P-card, Adobe, and Oracle applications.
  • Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • 3-5 years of administrative/office experience and 3+ years of accounting experience.
