About the position

The Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) Contracts and Grants department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a Financial & Budget Analyst to join our Grants and Contracts team. This position is essential in maintaining financial integrity and providing analytical support for various financial operations within the department. The analyst will be responsible for managing financial and budget spreadsheets, analyzing financial data, and preparing accurate and timely financial reports for school or department administrators, state budget, and financial reporting. The role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to work within deadlines to provide basic financial and budget forecasts for various funding sources, including salaries, fringe benefits, indirect cost recoveries, and grants and contracts. In this role, the analyst will download, compile, categorize, and manipulate financial data using quantitative models and formulas. They will prepare and distribute concise, well-organized financial reports, presentations, and financial information, which may include financial charts, forecasting, and budget vs. actual variance analysis. The analyst will also assist in reviewing and analyzing assigned financial accounts and expenditures to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies, which will aid in making accurate year-end revenue, expense, and surplus/deficit projections. Maintaining and monitoring budget archives and financial data files is crucial for generating needed financial information and reporting efficiently. The analyst will communicate with various schools and administrative units to understand their financial activity, request data, and assist them with internal or external financial data requests. They will also process various financial transactions, including purchase order requests and invoice receipts, while adhering to established University policies and procedures. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial management of sponsored projects and grants, ensuring compliance and effective use of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain financial and budget spreadsheets to analyze financial data and prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Download, compile, categorize, and manipulate financial data using quantitative models and formulas.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate, concise, and timely financial reports and presentations.
  • Analyze and provide basic financial and budget forecasts for various funding sources.
  • Assist with reviewing and analyzing financial accounts and expenditures to identify patterns and trends.
  • Maintain and monitor budget archives and financial data files for quick access and reporting.
  • Communicate with schools and administrative units regarding their financial activity and assist with data requests.
  • Process various financial transactions, including purchase orders and invoice receipts.
  • Adhere to established University policies, processes, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, auditing, or data management.
  • One year of experience specifically in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, or auditing.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
  • Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Financial Manager (CFM), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Nice-to-haves
