About the position

The Financial Business Analyst 1 position at Los Alamos National Laboratory involves supporting financial operations, reporting, and analysis for the Deputy Directorate for Operations. The role focuses on budgeting activities, preparing financial reports, and understanding financial policies and procedures. The analyst will formulate and maintain budgets, prepare financial plans, monitor policy implementation, analyze trends, and evaluate costs against budgeted funds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day budgeting activities and prepare basic financial reports.
  • Gain understanding of financial policies, procedures, and business systems.
  • Formulate, distribute, and maintain budgets for programs or organizational units.
  • Prepare financial plans and monitor implementation of financial policies.
  • Prepare regular and special-purpose reports and maintain historical records.
  • Analyze trends and establish cost plans and forecasts.
  • Recommend and interpret budgetary policies and procedures.
  • Prepare comparative evaluations of actual costs against budgeted funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of financial concepts including financial planning and analysis, budget formulation, and execution.
  • Skill in analyzing financial data and providing guidance and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel with ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage projects and execute complex assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • General understanding of Federal Cost Accounting Standards and Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • Experience with Government Contractors, including National Laboratories or Department of Energy facilities.
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance.
