About the position

The Patient Access Representative at Baptist Health South Florida is responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographic and insurance information, scheduling appointments and procedures, and ensuring a smooth patient flow in a call center environment. This role emphasizes quality metrics and requires knowledge of insurance requirements and revenue cycle operations, while also supporting departmental initiatives and training team members.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and verify necessary demographic and insurance information, including authorization/referrals/notifications.
  • Schedule patient appointments and procedures, including initial, follow-up, and add-on appointments.
  • Coordinate patient flow and ensure timely processing of patient inquiries.
  • Maintain knowledge of practices used within the department to address patient questions and concerns.
  • Assist in supporting go-lives and departmental initiatives, including onboarding and training team members.
  • Participate in departmental committees and champion opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance requirements, pricing, financial assistance options, and overall revenue cycle operations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year Patient Access experience for internal staff; 1 year experience or 2 years in lieu of degree for external staff.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced work environment.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with excellent customer service skills.
  • Compassionate and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory guidelines including HIPAA, AHCA, EMTALA, and Medicare coverage structure.
  • Understanding of insurance contracts, collections, authorizations, and pre-certifications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and EMR applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole.
