About the position

The Financial Controller position at Truist Bank is a critical role responsible for ensuring quality financial reporting of business activities within the Line of Business (LOB). This position serves as a liaison with the Corporate Policy team, acting as a subject matter expert to maintain up-to-date policies and clarify existing ones as necessary. The primary responsibilities encompass Management Reporting & Analysis, Financial Risk Management (FRM), Financial Reporting, and overseeing accounting controls and operations. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of organizational operations to address accounting and financial reporting issues, utilizing advanced analytical skills to identify innovative solutions. The Financial Controller will lead teams or projects that involve significant risk and complexity, mentoring teammates to enhance their technical expertise. Key responsibilities include providing accounting guidance to ensure accurate accounting for new products or transactions, preparing and reviewing monthly reporting and analyses, and conducting account-level variance analysis to support the month-end close process. The position also involves oversight of the internal control structure, ensuring compliance with GAAP and financial policies, and preparing SEC and regulatory disclosures. The Financial Controller will work collaboratively with various teams to ensure accurate transaction recording and will be responsible for monitoring compliance with corporate accounting policies. This role is based at 303 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia, requiring in-office presence three days a week, transitioning to four days a week starting October 1st, with no remote work options available.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality assured financial reporting of business activities within the Line of Business (LOB).
  • Serve as a liaison with the Corporate Policy team as a subject matter expert.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date policies and request clarification of existing policies as required.
  • Conduct management reporting and finance and accounting analytics.
  • Oversee internal controls over financial reporting and execution of accounting processes.
  • Prepare and review reporting and analyses of monthly results in support of the closing process.
  • Identify and analyze variances and unusual trends in the LOB GL activity.
  • Prepare and review standard and enhanced reports, regular and ad hoc analytics.
  • Assess accounting impacts of business changes.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of processes impacting financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review SEC and Regulatory disclosures and financial filings.
  • Support the month-end close process and perform SOX controls.
  • Prepare journal entries to record business transactions to the GL.
  • Collaborate with the LOB and SFO teams to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  • Monitor compliance with Corporate accounting policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent education and related training.
  • Five years of relevant accounting or finance experience.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks with broader implications in mind.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to build consensus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA certification.
  • Experience in financial services or specialized industry.

  • Proficiency in Essbase/Hyperion, EPM/BPC, or other enterprise accounting software.
  • Previous FINRA regulatory reporting experience for an institutional broker/dealer.
