About the position

The Corporate Controller will manage the financial operations of a real estate management firm, overseeing daily accounting activities and leading an offshore bookkeeping team. This role requires collaboration with property managers and senior leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations. The position offers some flexibility for remote work but is primarily in-person.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct all facets of financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Supervise the offshore bookkeeping team to guarantee prompt and precise financial data entry and processing.
  • Collaborate with property managers to facilitate financial reporting, budgeting, and property-specific planning.
  • Partner with company leadership to provide insightful financial analysis and strategic recommendations.
  • Manage daily accounting tasks using Appfolio, ensuring accurate documentation of all transactions.
  • Take the lead on special financial projects, providing analytical support and reporting to advance company initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Develop and enforce policies that enhance financial controls and improve operational efficiency.
  • Prepare regular financial statements and reports for both internal stakeholders and external parties.
  • Assist in the creation of budgets, forecasting, and variance analysis while offering strategic insights.
  • Oversee key financial operations such as cash flow management, accounts receivable/payable, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, perform account analyses, and manage journal entries.
  • Handle accounts payable reporting and vendor payment processing.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely completion of audits and tax filings.
  • Maintain open communication with company ownership and actively engage in company initiatives and community activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within property management or real estate.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software, particularly Appfolio.
  • Excellent analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Experience managing teams, including offshore teams, is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and resolve complex financial issues simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
