About the position

Core Group Resources is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead our accounting team in New York, NY. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, preferably within the maritime industry, and will be responsible for streamlining our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. As the Financial Controller, you will play a crucial role in producing comprehensive financial-status reports for senior management, which will aid in improving operational efficiency and supporting the company's growth objectives. In this role, you will maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and organizational budgets, ensuring that actual expenditures align with established benchmarks. You will work closely with the CFO to establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards on a biweekly, monthly, and annual basis. Implementing consistent accounting policies and procedures across all programs will be a key responsibility, as will developing and enforcing internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Your leadership will be vital in fostering a productive and trusting environment within the accounting team. You will provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting relevant data points. Additionally, you will guide financial decisions by applying company policies to the current economic landscape and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining financial controls and guidelines. Achieving budgeting goals through proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions will also be part of your responsibilities, along with supporting both short- and long-term operational strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dynamic leadership to the accounting team, fostering an environment of trust and productivity.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and report appropriate data points to senior managers for financial updates.
  • Guide financial decisions by applying company policies to the current economic landscape.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  • Achieve budgeting goals through proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Support the development of short- and long-term operational strategies.

Requirements

  • 2 years of controller experience.
  • Strong understanding of financial data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field.
  • Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant).
