This role is crucial in overseeing the smooth process of all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants and contracts management. The Controller will ensure that Housing Families, Inc. has the necessary systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. This position requires close collaboration with program directors and staff to educate them on finance and accounting procedures while exploring how the finance function can support program operations. The responsibilities of the Controller include planning, directing, and managing all accounting operational functions. This involves monitoring and analyzing accounting data, producing financial reports or statements, and preparing a month-end close process. Monthly financial statements will need to be prepared with supporting reconciliation schedules, and the Controller will assist in maintaining proper accounting methods, policies, and principles. Additionally, the Controller will organize and coordinate all audit activities, review and/or prepare contract invoices on a monthly or quarterly basis, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and process payroll on a bi-weekly basis through Paycom. The role also includes approving the coding of invoices of payables through Bill.com, assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes. The Controller will be responsible for hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff, assigning projects, and directing staff to ensure compliance and accuracy. Establishing and maintaining fiscal files and records to document transactions is also a key responsibility, along with providing oversight and supervision of all finance and accounting staff.
