About the position

We are seeking a Controller for our Specialty Alloys and Components business unit based in Millersburg, Oregon. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all financial reporting deadlines are met, and it encompasses responsibilities such as forecasting, budgeting, and collaborating with front line leaders to understand and influence cost drivers. The Controller will lead and develop a team focused on Cost Accounting, General Accounting, Capital Assets, and Billing/Credit. As a business partner, the Controller will challenge and support the business unit's ability to anticipate issues and drive decision-making through sound financial management and compliance with public company regulations. The successful candidate will be capable of driving detailed, tactical execution and will serve as the primary resource for the Business Unit Senior Finance Director regarding accounting and compliance matters, interacting closely with the entire Senior Leadership team. In this role, you will be responsible for meeting deadlines for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close duties, managing balance sheet requirements, and ensuring accurate reporting. You will build and maintain internal controls in a Sarbanes-Oxley compliant organization and manage the annual audit process with both internal and external auditors. Providing business unit management with necessary financial information, analyses, and recommendations will be crucial for informed decision-making. You will work closely with your team to prepare timely and accurate monthly forecasts, financial reports, and trends to assist senior leaders in their responsibilities. Additionally, you will contribute to the annual budget and forecasting process, continuously improve financial processes, and educate managers on financial issues impacting their forecasts. Your leadership will extend to managing the team, including talent development, coaching, performance management, and hiring decisions. You will assist in developing long-term financial plans and strategies, evaluate capital investment opportunities, and implement financial systems and software to enhance efficiency and data integrity. Staying updated on emerging financial technologies and recommending appropriate solutions will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the annual budget and forecasting process.
  • Continuously improve financial processes through education of managers on financial issues impacting their forecasts.
  • Actively participate in cost reduction efforts and help identify opportunities.
  • Lead and manage the team including talent development, coaching, performance management, and team hiring decisions.
  • Assist in the development of long-term financial plans and strategies.
  • Evaluate capital investment opportunities and other business initiatives.
  • Evaluate and implement financial systems and software to improve efficiency, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Stay updated on emerging financial technologies and recommend appropriate solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of managerial or leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to generate and analyze income statement, balance sheet, revenue forecasts and cash flow statements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to non-finance coworkers, and influence, engage business leaders, partners and peers.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to develop and manage processes that are effective and efficient.
  • Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
  • Advanced MS Office skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing within a multi-location ERP environment is highly desirable.
