About the position

The Financial Controller at Universal Contracting & Solar is a key role responsible for driving revenue and profitability within the company. This position involves providing financial insight, guidance, and support to enhance decision-making processes. The Controller will oversee financial operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, job costing, and payroll, while ensuring compliance with tax regulations and preparing financial reports.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and establish objectives and goals for assigned duties.
• Ensure timely, accurate, and streamlined operations of A/R, A/P, job costing, and payroll functions.
• Provide financial advice by studying operational issues and developing recommendations.
• Keep the Owner informed of the company's performance.
• Prepare account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial statements.
• Respond to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
• Manage a staff of administrative office individuals.
• Prepare and review tax filings including sales tax, 1099s, and use tax.
• Ensure tax compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes.

Requirements

• Master's Degree or equivalent in Accounting or related field (preferred)
• 5 years of experience in Accounting (preferred)
• Experience in the construction field (preferred)
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with financial statement preparation and cash flow management.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with QuickBooks
• Knowledge of percentage completion accounting
• Familiarity with monthly WIP reconciliation
• Ability to develop and implement business strategy
