About the position
The Financial Counselor at Franciscan Health is responsible for assisting patients with financial inquiries related to their healthcare services. This role involves contacting patients to resolve discrepancies in insurance coverage, educating them about their insurance benefits, and facilitating payment options. The counselor works closely with various departments to ensure a smooth financial counseling process and provides support to patients during their hospital stay.
Responsibilities
- Contact patients to assist with discrepancies in insurance coverage, rescheduling options, and financial security of services scheduled.
- Manage self-pay, Medicare, and other work queues for the Financial Counseling Department.
- Perform Point of Service Collection (POS) and post payments as appropriate.
- Review and understand insurance eligibility and educate patients on coverage, benefits, and liability.
- Collaborate with Scheduling, Ancillary Departments, Insurance Verifier, Billing, Collections, and Customer Service.
- Analyze documentation to calculate expected charges and explain payment responsibilities to patients.
- Document account information clearly and timely in the account record.
- Explain payment options and financial assistance to patients and determine payment plans for self-pay balances.
- Meet with patients to address post-service billing concerns and facilitate customer complaints.
- Provide financial assistance education and facilitate paperwork upon patient requests.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Preferred Associate's Degree.
- 2 years of experience in Revenue Cycle.
