About the position

The Financial Crimes Analyst III position at Truist involves performing research and loss mitigation efforts across multiple intake channels to make decisions on Financial Crimes related cases and alerts. The analyst will be responsible for researching and analyzing account activity to assess risk levels and make decisions in accordance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures. This role is part of the Global Sanctions and Screening Team, which manages the review and disposition of complex sanctions alerts to prevent the bank from engaging in prohibited activities. The position requires timely analysis and adjudication of sanctions client alerts, particularly for clients with connections to sanctioned jurisdictions such as Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and Syria. The analyst will also analyze alerts related to other risk controls, including identifying Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) and managing communications with business units to obtain necessary documentation for evaluating alerts. The role requires the analyst to utilize banking systems to investigate and research transactional information, conduct client research, and make well-supported decisions using critical thinking skills. The analyst must efficiently resolve cases or alerts while being aware of timelines set by the Financial Crimes function. Additionally, the analyst will support effective communication with internal and external partners and participate in training related to BSA/AML/OFAC and Fraud to stay updated on changing laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research and loss mitigation efforts across multiple intake channels to decision Financial Crimes related cases and alerts.
  • Analyze and adjudicate sanctions client alerts to prevent Truist from engaging in prohibited activities.
  • Review complex transactions and relationships to assess the sanctions nexus for clients connected to sanctioned jurisdictions.
  • Analyze alerts related to risk controls, including identification of Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) and internal hotlist alerts.
  • Obtain and analyze documentation related to clients from sanctioned jurisdictions to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Manage communications with Business Units to obtain necessary documentation for alert evaluation.
  • Utilize banking systems to investigate and research transactional information to meet Financial Crimes requirements.
  • Conduct client research and make well-supported decisions relative to alert types.
  • Utilize internal and external applications to assist in investigations and research of alerts.
  • Resolve cases or alerts efficiently while adhering to timelines set by the Financial Crimes function.
  • Support effective communication with internal and external partners or clients.
  • Participate in BSA/AML/OFAC and/or Fraud related training to stay abreast of changing laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or equivalent education and related training.
  • Three to five years of banking, financial industry, or related experience, preferably in a branch, audit, compliance, legal, risk, or lending capacity.
  • Ability to learn and perform complex processes to meet departmental procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong work prioritization and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and client service skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
