About the position

The Financial Data Analyst at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the department. This position involves independent data collection, analysis, and preparation activities, with a strong emphasis on financial tasks related to budgets and business operations. The analyst will work closely with the Director of Operations and the multidisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across various functions. In this role, the analyst will coordinate finance-related tasks that support the daily operations of the department. This includes managing financials and operational metrics across multiple programs, as well as facilitating and reconciling all system entries with both the Kennedy Krieger Institute Finance Department and external sponsored systems. The analyst will prepare monthly analyses comparing budgeted to actual revenue and expenses, meeting with Directors and Managers to review results and provide recommendations for improvement. The Financial Data Analyst will also participate in quarterly meetings with the Director to review quarterly results and develop multiple operational scenarios as requested. A significant part of the role involves completing the financial aspects of grant applications, including managing grant budgets for both pending and awarded grants. The analyst will monitor grants to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, manage invoices and reports, and prepare journal entries to close grants and reconcile accounts. Additionally, the analyst will assist the Director in completing monthly reports required by accreditation agencies, such as CARF and the Joint Commission, and will make recommendations on optimizing reporting systems and databases. The role also includes processing departmental invoices, purchase orders, and personal service agreements, as well as managing monthly time-and-effort reports related to salary allocations. The analyst will facilitate system entries as necessary and assist the Director with special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate finance related tasks that support the daily operations of the department.
  • Prepare monthly analysis of budget to actual revenue and expense for the department.
  • Meet with Directors and Managers monthly to review results and make recommendations.
  • Participate in quarterly meetings with Director to review quarterly results.
  • Develop multiple operational scenarios at the direction and request of the Director.
  • Complete required financial aspects of grant application paperwork including sub-contract and consulting agreements when necessary.
  • Set-up and maintain grant budgets for pending and awarded grants.
  • Monitor grants to ensure all contractual requirements are met, invoices and reports are set, and all award statements and payments are received.
  • Make recommendations for proper adjustments.
  • Prepare journal entries to close grants and reconcile accounts.
  • Assist Director with completing monthly reports required by accreditation agencies, including CARF and Joint Commission.
  • Respond to report requests and liaise with Enterprise Intelligence, Information Technology, and EPIC teams to develop and optimize departmental reports.
  • Process departmental invoices, purchase orders, and personal service agreements.
  • Manage monthly time-and-effort reports related to salary allocations.
  • Assist the Director with special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience required.
  • Experience managing grants and/or knowledge of contracting processes preferred.
  • Experience planning, implementing, and updating accounting systems preferred.
  • Experience using QuickBooks preferred.
