About the position

The Financial Economist (Market RAD) position at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency involves providing expert advice and consultation through research, analysis, and modeling to assess banks' model risk management practices and compliance with regulations. The role focuses on understanding emerging risks and trends in financial institutions and markets, contributing to the supervision and regulation of capital markets activities.

Responsibilities

  • Apply quantitative finance principles and economic theories to analyze risks of supervised banks' activities in capital markets areas.
  • Assess and evaluate quantitative models used in valuation for financial products and risk management.
  • Analyze and evaluate bank-specific quantitative validation reports and relevant work products to ensure appropriate risk management processes.
  • Provide memoranda summarizing findings and conclusions regarding a bank's exposure to model risks and the effectiveness of its model risk management framework.
  • Conduct directed and self-directed research and prepare professional papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Support projects as requested by the Comptroller and senior management on various policy and management issues.
  • Initiate analytical projects to understand emerging risks or the impact of policy or regulation.

Requirements

  • Degree in Economics with at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
  • One year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the next lower level, NB-IV or GS-11, involving research in economic, financial, or quantitative theories.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conducting research involving economic, financial, or quantitative theories.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed academic journals.
