About the position
The Financial Institution Internship (FII) is a paid internship designed for students pursuing a degree in relevant fields. This internship may lead to a post-graduation employment offer as a Financial Institution Specialist, which includes a three and a half year program culminating in a professional certification as a commissioned Financial Institution Examiner. Interns will work closely with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate compliance with fair lending and consumer protection laws at FDIC-insured institutions, gaining valuable experience in the financial regulatory environment.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with teams to evaluate FDIC-insured institutions' compliance with fair lending and consumer protection laws.
- Assess the adequacy of the Compliance Management System under supervision.
- Conduct reviews of initial disclosures, periodic statements, and advertisements for compliance with regulations.
- Examine closed-end non-real estate credit transactions for compliance.
- Review the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act loan application register for accuracy.
- Review adverse action notices for compliance with lending-related regulations.
- Examine a sample of residential, consumer, commercial, and agricultural files for compliance with consumer laws.
- Participate in discussions regarding the examination process and compliance management systems.
- Prepare summaries of performance factors for assigned ratings.
Requirements
- Must be a current student enrolled in an accredited college or university at least half-time.
- Must have completed at least the sophomore year in college by the start of the internship.
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 throughout the internship.
- Must be majoring in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing, or related fields.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in financial analysis or compliance-related coursework.
- Familiarity with consumer protection laws and regulations.
