About the position

The Financial Institution Internship (FII) is a paid internship designed for students pursuing a degree in relevant fields. This internship may lead to a post-graduation employment offer as a Financial Institution Specialist, which is part of a three and a half year program culminating in a professional certification as a commissioned Financial Institution Examiner. Interns will work closely with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate compliance with fair lending and consumer protection laws within FDIC-insured institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with teams to evaluate compliance of FDIC-insured institutions with fair lending and consumer protection laws.
  • Assess the adequacy of the Compliance Management System under supervision.
  • Conduct reviews of initial disclosures, periodic statements, and advertisements for compliance with regulations.
  • Examine closed-end non-real estate credit transactions for compliance.
  • Review the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act loan application register for accuracy.
  • Review adverse action notices for compliance with lending-related regulations.
  • Examine a sample of residential, consumer, commercial, and agricultural files for compliance with consumer laws.
  • Participate in discussions regarding the examination process and compliance management systems.
  • Prepare summaries of performance factors for assigned ratings.

Requirements

  • Must be a current student enrolled in an accredited educational institution, at least half-time, and have completed at least the sophomore year in college.
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 is required and must be maintained throughout the internship.
  • Must be majoring in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing, or related fields.
  • Must submit all required documents by the closing date of the announcement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in financial analysis or compliance-related coursework.
  • Familiarity with consumer protection laws and regulations.
