About the position

The Financial Institution Internship (FII) is a paid internship designed for students pursuing a degree in relevant fields. This internship provides hands-on experience in risk management and may lead to a post-graduation employment offer as a Financial Institution Specialist. Interns will work closely with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate bank operations and risk management strategies, contributing to the assessment of financial institutions' compliance with banking practices and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate bank operations, business planning, and risk management strategies.
  • Conduct reviews and assessments of financial reports and accounting procedures.
  • Assist in evaluating the adequacy of internal controls and procedures at financial institutions.
  • Prepare drafts of schedules, exhibits, and comments for examination reports.
  • Participate in various phases of bank examinations as assigned.
  • Conduct audit test checks on income and expense accounts.
  • Compute capital ratios and reconcile capital accounts.
  • Review liquidity and analyze fluctuations in loans, securities, deposits, and borrowings.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled as a student in an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing, or related fields.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and maintain this GPA throughout the internship.
  • Must have completed at least two full academic years towards the degree by the first day of employment.
  • Must submit all required documents by the closing date of the announcement.
