About the position
The Financial Institution Internship (FII) is a paid internship designed for students pursuing a degree in relevant fields. This internship may lead to a post-graduation employment offer as a Financial Institution Specialist, which is part of a three and a half year program culminating in a professional certification as a commissioned Financial Institution Examiner. Interns will work closely with experienced FDIC employees in the Division of Risk Management Supervision (RMS) to evaluate bank operations and risk management strategies, ensuring compliance with banking regulations and practices.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate bank operations and business planning strategies.
- Assess financial institutions for compliance with safe banking practices.
- Conduct reviews of Consolidated Reports of Conditions and Income.
- Assist in evaluating the adequacy of internal controls and procedures.
- Prepare drafts of schedules and comments for examination reports.
- Conduct audit test checks on income and expense accounts.
- Compute capital ratios and reconcile capital accounts.
- Review liquidity and analyze fluctuations in loans, securities, deposits, and borrowings.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled as a student in an accredited college or university at least half-time.
- Must have completed at least two full academic years towards a degree.
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 throughout the internship.
- Must have a major in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, economics, finance, marketing, or related fields.
