About the position

The Financial Institution Specialist (Risk Management) position at the FDIC involves training and practical experience in assessing financial institutions for compliance with laws and regulations, as well as evaluating their risk management practices. Specialists will participate in examinations, prepare reports, and communicate findings to institution officials, contributing to the overall safety and soundness of the financial system.

Responsibilities

  • Receive on-the-job and formal classroom training in risk management.
  • Participate in the assessment of financial institutions to identify unsafe practices and regulatory violations.
  • Write comments and analyses for examination reports and discuss findings with institution officials.
  • Review pre-examination data and assist in analyzing earnings, liquidity, and capital.
  • Research and compile data to prepare management reports and presentations.
  • Prepare examination reports and related documents such as work papers and Reports of Examinations.
  • Attend meetings with FDIC officials and other stakeholders to discuss relevant issues.
  • Conduct interviews with institution personnel to assess their awareness of laws and regulations.
  • Identify and report unusual transactions or deficiencies in documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, banking, business administration, commercial law, economics, finance, marketing, or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of specialized experience in gathering and analyzing financial data and interpreting financial statements, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of banking theory, operations, and commercial law sufficient for independent performance of assignments.
  • Skill in fact-finding, analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in risk management or financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations and compliance standards.
