About the position

The Treasury Analyst position within the Office of Treasury Operations at Duke University is a critical role that provides technical, analytical, and operational support to the university and the Duke University Health System (DUHS). This position is responsible for managing corporate debt, ensuring compliance with external financial reporting, and supporting the Assistant Director of Treasury Operations in various financial tasks. The Treasury Analyst will work closely with key administrative, accounting, and financial personnel, as well as external consultants and service providers, to ensure the effective management of the university's financial operations. In this role, the Treasury Analyst will be tasked with providing support for internal and external reporting and payment deadlines. This includes the accrual, allocation, and recording of interest and other financing costs, as well as managing required external debt service payments. The analyst will also be responsible for external reporting on the university's debt activity to rating agencies and investment banks, and for fulfilling monthly and annual financial analytical reporting requirements. The position involves developing and maintaining treasury reports for compliance reporting from SAP R/4, creating debt projection models and budgets, and managing the university's internal loan and debt service program. The Treasury Analyst will regularly monitor financial and non-financial debt covenant requirements and prepare necessary schedules, notes, and analyses for the annual financial statements of Duke University and the Health System. Additionally, the analyst will engage in special projects related to university bond issues, interest rate swaps, and debt-related derivative transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and operational support to the Assistant Director of Debt Management.
  • Manage internal and external reporting and payment deadlines related to interest and financing costs.
  • Ensure compliance with required external debt service payments.
  • Prepare external reporting on the University's debt activity for rating agencies and investment banks.
  • Fulfill monthly and annual financial analytical reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain treasury reports for compliance reporting from SAP R/4.
  • Create debt projection models and budgets for the University.
  • Manage the University's internal loan and debt service program, including accounting and reporting for all loans.
  • Monitor financial and non-financial debt covenant requirements regularly.
  • Prepare schedules, notes, and descriptive analyses for the annual financial statements of Duke University and the Health System.
  • Engage in special projects such as university bond issues, interest rate swaps, and debt-related derivative transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related business field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, audit in a public accounting environment, or related experience.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft products.
  • Experience with SAP is preferred.
  • Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.

  • Experience in corporate debt management.
  • Familiarity with external financial and compliance reporting processes.
