About the position

The Financial Operations Analyst at the Walsh School of Foreign Service is responsible for managing budget and financial analysis for various academic departments and programs. This role involves close collaboration with the Associate Director of Finance and Operations to ensure effective financial operations, including budget development, monthly reconciliations, and financial forecasting. The analyst will also provide operational support and ensure compliance with university policies while delivering high-quality service to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage budget and financial analysis for a portfolio of academic departments and programs.
  • Develop and analyze the annual budget.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations and forecasting of revenue and expense trends.
  • Approve financial transactions in accordance with the developed budget.
  • Provide operational and financial support as Cost Center Manager for academic units.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies for various financial processes.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide solutions-oriented service.
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of faculty and administrators.
  • Research and provide comprehensive responses to inquiries regarding finance and budget.
  • Act as an expert on university policies and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience in financial analysis and budgeting, preferably in a university or non-profit environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with diverse constituents.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply university policies within a complex organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with little supervision.
  • Familiarity with managing large volumes of data and database queries.
  • Proficiency with Georgetown University systems, specifically GMS (Workday) preferred.
