About the position

The Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst III position within Medical Financial Operations is a critical individual contributor role that serves as a financial and operational consultant for a diverse portfolio of medical center departments. This includes administrative, ancillary, inpatient, primary, and specialty care departments, all under the guidance of more senior staff. The primary focus of this role is to provide comprehensive operational and financial reporting, analysis, and consultation that aligns with the strategic goals of the organization. The analyst will be responsible for resource allocation support, including the development of business cases, and will collaborate closely with clinical department leadership to drive operational excellence through effective influence, analysis, interpretation, and data validation. In this role, the analyst is expected to maintain a deep understanding of healthcare operations and the integrated healthcare model at the clinical level. This involves interpreting large volumes of complex data, such as medical records and financial information, to provide detailed operational data that evaluates performance improvement initiatives. The analyst will also be responsible for programming and conducting statistical analyses using tools such as SAS and SQL to facilitate data-driven decision-making. Additionally, the role requires conducting research and preparing detailed business cases in partnership with department leaders, leveraging a breadth of operational knowledge to assess and evaluate department operations and workflows. The responsibilities extend to identifying opportunities for optimizing efficiencies in appointment supply and demand, applying data modeling concepts to both financial and non-financial scenarios, and developing and maintaining complex staffing models that are essential for department and medical center operations. The analyst will also engage in various financial assessments, costing activities, and support for internal and external audits, ensuring that all financial operations align with the organization's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a financial and operational consultant for a portfolio of medical center departments.
  • Provide operational and financial reporting, analysis, and consultation in support of organizational strategic goals.
  • Support resource allocation including business case development.
  • Collaborate with clinical department leadership to drive operational excellence through influence and data validation.
  • Interpret large volumes of complex data to evaluate performance improvement initiatives.
  • Program and conduct statistical analyses to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Conduct research and prepare detailed business cases in partnership with department leaders.
  • Assess and evaluate department operations and workflows to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Apply data modeling concepts to financial and non-financial scenarios.
  • Develop and maintain complex staffing models for department and medical center operations.
  • Conduct financial assessments and generate reports summarizing business, financial, or economic data.
  • Identify cost avoidance and cost recovery opportunities through costing activities.
  • Support financial performance improvement by identifying financial trends and operational issues.
  • Develop best-practice business models and analyze risk alternatives.
  • Evaluate financial trends and data analysis reports to support reporting of financial information.
  • Conduct research to assess the financial impact of strategies and initiatives.
  • Create budgets and forecasts in accordance with business strategic initiatives.
  • Implement complex financial analyses and variance analysis to evaluate performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of Financial Planning & Analysis experience or directly related business experience.
  • Additional equivalent work experience in a directly related field may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Nice-to-haves

  • One (1) year finance experience working in a medical center or clinical setting.
  • One (1) year experience consulting or working directly with clinical health care leadership.
