About the position

In this senior individual contributor role, the Financial Planning and Analysis Analyst IV will serve as an experienced finance leader and operational consultant for a portfolio of medical center departments, including administrative, ancillary, inpatient, primary, and specialty care. The position involves providing operational and financial reporting, analysis, and consultation to support the organization's strategic goals. This includes resource allocation support, business case development, and collaboration with clinical department leadership to drive operational excellence through influence, analysis, interpretation, and data validation. The analyst will be required to maintain a deep understanding of health care operations and Kaiser Permanente's integrated health care model at the clinical level. This may involve interpreting large volumes of complex data, such as medical records and financials, to provide detailed operational data that evaluates performance improvement initiatives. The role also includes programming and conducting statistical analyses using tools like SAS and SQL to facilitate data-driven decision-making, as well as conducting research and preparing detailed business cases in partnership with department leaders. Additionally, the analyst will leverage their operational knowledge to assess and evaluate department operations and workflows, identifying opportunities to optimize efficiencies in appointment supply and demand. They will apply data modeling concepts to both financial and non-financial scenarios and develop and maintain complex staffing models used for department and medical center operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an experienced finance leader and operational consultant for various medical center departments.
  • Provide operational and financial reporting, analysis, and consultation to support organizational strategic goals.
  • Develop business cases and provide resource allocation support in collaboration with clinical department leadership.
  • Interpret large volumes of complex data to evaluate performance improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct statistical analyses using tools such as SAS and SQL to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Assess and evaluate department operations and workflows to identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Create budgets and forecasts in alignment with business strategic initiatives.
  • Advise region/business unit leaders on strategic fiscal matters and facilitate financial management throughout the organization.
  • Conduct financial modeling and develop complex models to analyze risk alternatives and forecasts.
  • Evaluate performance and financial state using various financial analyses and templates.
  • Report financial information by evaluating and communicating financial trends and forecasts.
  • Support field operations by analyzing and interpreting operational/financial performance.
  • Conduct financial statement analysis of business partners and assess risk implications.
  • Improve financial performance by analyzing financial trends and operational performance issues.
  • Inform strategic financial planning through complex financial, utilization, and benchmark analytics.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years finance experience managing a portfolio of departments, business lines, and/or functional/service areas.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field.
  • Minimum six (6) years Financial Planning & Analysis experience, or directly related business experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) years finance experience working in a medical center or clinical setting.
  • Three (3) years experience consulting or working directly with clinical health care leadership.
