About the position

The Financial Program Specialist position at the Department of Justice involves overseeing and guiding financial management operations within the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with BOP policies, analyzing financial trends, and recommending improvements to maximize resource utilization. This position is critical in maintaining the integrity of financial operations and supporting the agency's mission of public safety and successful reentry of individuals into communities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a facilitator and interpreter of BOP policies related to financial management.
• Provide oversight and guidance to Central Office, institution, and regional office staff on financial operations.
• Review, analyze, and evaluate BOP financial management operations and recommend changes.
• Independently perform various financial and budgetary functions, including reconciliation of accounts and reviewing financial obligations.
• Ensure proper tracking of reimbursable agreements for elimination purposes.
• Identify changing financial trends and proactively resolve issues to avoid adverse impacts on management objectives.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the normal line of progress for the occupation.
• Experience performing annual certification of accounts receivables.
• Experience analyzing financial management work processes and implementing changes to improve workflow.
• Experience performing reviews of General Ledger accounts and verifying accuracy.
• Experience identifying accounting errors impacting financial statements and providing corrective action.
