About the position

The Financial Program Specialist position at the Department of Justice involves overseeing financial management operations within the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with BOP policies, providing guidance to various offices, and managing financial functions such as account reconciliation and budget analysis. The specialist will proactively identify financial trends and resolve issues to support the agency's objectives.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a facilitator and interpreter of BOP policies related to financial management.
• Provide oversight and guidance to Central Office, institution, and regional office staff on financial operations.
• Independently accomplish various financial and budgetary functions, including account reconciliations and reviewing financial obligations.
• Ensure reimbursable agreements are tracked properly for elimination purposes.
• Proactively identify changing financial trends and resolve problems to avoid adverse impacts on management objectives.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the normal line of progress for the occupation.
• Experience performing annual certification of accounts receivables.
• Experience analyzing financial management work processes and implementing changes to improve workflow.
• Experience performing reviews of General Ledger accounts and verifying accuracy.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience serving on workgroups to resolve accounting/financial management issues.
• Experience identifying accounting errors impacting financial statement preparation.
