About the position

The Financial Reporting & Accounting Compliance Manager at Harbor Group Management is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the preparation and review of financial statements for the company's subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS standards. This position requires a strong leader who can manage a team dedicated to technical accounting research and liaising with external auditors. The manager will play a crucial role in collaborating with various departments to identify and resolve technical accounting and financial reporting issues, ensuring that all financial reporting implications are thoroughly assessed and addressed. In this role, the manager will lead the preparation and review of standalone financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards. They will also be responsible for developing training materials to enhance the team's understanding of technical accounting issues, including the preparation of technical accounting memoranda. The manager will review legal documents to track reporting requirements for new entities and maintain support for financial statement disclosures, working closely with auditors to facilitate successful audits and engagements. Additionally, the Financial Reporting & Accounting Compliance Manager will oversee the tracking of securities documents, ensuring proper placement with qualified custodians. They will assist in the documentation and updating of accounting and finance standard operating procedures (SOPs) and will be involved in various special projects as needed. This role demands a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and/or review of the company's subsidiaries standalone financial statements, in accordance with US GAAP or IFRS.
  • Collaborate with departments to identify technical accounting and financial reporting issues and assess related financial reporting implications.
  • Research and conclude on various accounting matters in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Develop training materials on researching and concluding on technical accounting issues, including technical accounting memorandum preparation.
  • Review legal documents to determine and track reporting requirements for new entities.
  • Maintain support for financial statement disclosures and liaise with auditors in the successful completion of various audits and other engagements.
  • Respond to various requests from investors and external sponsors.
  • Oversee tracking of securities documents and ensure placement with qualified custodians.
  • Assist in the documentation, updating, and creation of accounting/finance SOPs.
  • Work on various special projects.

Requirements

  • BS degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • CPA required.
  • 5+ years in public accounting, with heavy experience in preparing financial statements and researching technical accounting issues required.
  • Previous experience with Yardi, MRI, Workiva (Wdesk), or other accounting systems a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook & PowerPoint; very strong Excel skills along with ability to learn new accounting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS and ability to research accounting literature including previous experience dealing with technical matters that include complex real estate transactions.
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, both verbal and written; ability to communicate with external sponsors and investors.
  • Ability to assimilate and summarize large quantities of data precisely and succinctly.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time well, meet critical deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
