About the position

The Financial Risk Analyst position at NW Natural is responsible for managing the middle office functions of the Financial Risk department. This includes ensuring compliance with financial risk policies, SOX compliance, and overseeing processes related to derivatives and natural gas commodity contracts. The role involves trade validation, credit monitoring, and supporting SEC reporting, all while fostering collaboration across departments and maintaining a strong internal control structure.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the Financial Risk department's middle office functions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's financial risk policies and procedures.
  • Design and maintain an effective internal control structure over transactions.
  • Facilitate derivative policy and SOX controls implementation and review.
  • Daily use of Allegro system for regular duties, including functionality enhancement and troubleshooting.
  • Review and approve all physical and financial transactions for compliance with policies and SOX controls.
  • Identify weaknesses and opportunities for enhancement in the control environment and develop solutions.
  • Perform Middle Office functions including deal validation, confirmation, valuation, and contract administration.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with other departments.
  • Manage ongoing and new project duties as company initiatives arise.
  • Perform calculations of MTM and credit exposure for transactions.
  • Assist in the credit and contract administration and review of various contracts.
  • Support monitoring and reporting on the Company's derivative counterparty credit risk exposures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in trading environment, middle office duties, energy contract administration, credit, or utility accounting.
  • Proven analytical skills for investigating and solving problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ETRM systems or similar trading applications.
  • Energy contract administration or credit experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management skills preferred.
  • Current experience with PowerPoint and PowerBI/Tableau preferred.
