About the position

The Financial Services Accounting Analyst at CenterPoint Energy plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the company's financials. This position involves close collaboration with the accounting department and other financial professionals to create journal entries, perform account and bank reconciliations, and analyze financial data. The analyst will provide support to management, internal customers, auditors, and regulators, ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). In this role, the analyst will apply accounting principles to analyze cash and cash equivalents accounts, ensuring the adequacy of internal controls as per SO 404. The position requires the creation and application of analytical procedures to verify the accuracy of cash-related financial transactions and data. The analyst will prepare bank reconciliations for various CenterPoint Energy companies, review and analyze bank fees, and assist with the monthly close of books and records. This includes recording journal entries and performing required reconciliations as part of the close process, as well as analyzing and reconciling Goods Receipt/Invoice Receipt (GR/IR) transactions. Additionally, the analyst will prepare general ledger reconciliations and analyses for all general ledger accounts within Financial Services, develop and maintain policies and procedures, and assist in designing, maintaining, and testing internal controls within the Financial Services department. The role also involves preparing supporting documents for audits and coordinating the audit process, while supporting ongoing efforts to align policies, guidelines, and processes to manage risk and improve operational efficiencies across the operating companies.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze cash and cash equivalents accounts to ensure adequacy of internal controls (SO 404).

  • Review and analyze bank fees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Ability to read, interpret and gain a basic understanding of various state requirements.
  • Proven, accountable owner of process and tools is preferred.
  • Preferred - experience with SAP or other ERP system.
