About the position

The Financial Services Specialist role at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union is focused on delivering exceptional member service and enhancing member engagement and satisfaction. This position involves personalized service, product recommendations, and problem-solving to meet members' financial needs while ensuring accuracy and efficiency in transactions. The role requires working a standard 40-hour week with some Saturday shifts, and it supports two branches in the Clarkston/Ortonville area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior member service by responding to inquiries with urgency and processing transactions accurately.
  • Identify and sell products and services, providing financial education to enhance the member experience.
  • Utilize outbound calling and cross-selling tools to develop relationships with current members.
  • Mitigate risk by following department and Credit Union procedures to ensure accurate processing of member requests and transactions.
  • Manage time effectively and seek opportunities for personal development.
  • Utilize various communication channels to ensure clear and effective communication within the team and across the Credit Union.
  • Promote and guide members in using Credit Union technology to manage their finances.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Credit Union product knowledge and services.
  • Handle escalations with empathy and professionalism, resolving issues to achieve superior service.
  • Apply fraud detection strategies to protect members and the Credit Union.
  • Complete required departmental activities and trainings for compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Adhere to safety and security procedures regarding emergency situations and suspicious activity.
  • Display adaptability and flexibility in meeting business needs based on member volume patterns.
  • Meet or exceed established performance metrics contributing to the Credit Union's goals.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in member service and cash handling procedures.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Strong sales skills with identifiable results.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Reliable and dependable with regular attendance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in financial services or banking industry.
  • Familiarity with Credit Union products and services.
  • Skills in de-escalating and resolving member situations.
